# Work readiness

> Work package readiness: determine whether a specific unit of physical work can begin now. When it cannot, say which gate is open and who owns it.

## What happens

A long-lead supplier slips. The kit breaks, the block loses its sequence, and the crew needs a stop-or-proceed call that will hold up.

### The chain

1. **The kit goes short** (record): Two of the nine spools for WP-019 are in stores, made to Rev C, and Rev D re-specifies them. Purchasing counts them as stock. The work package cannot use them.
2. **Readiness recomputes** (record): Configuration and material are known open. Six gates, two of them open: NOT READY.
3. **The package cannot release** (work): The crew booked against WP-019 has no releasable work at the bench, and the schedule still shows it starting this shift.
4. **The block loses its window** (physical): The outfitting access on block B30 is a finite window. It moves, and every package sequenced behind it moves with it.
5. **A named person holds, or proceeds** (decision): Production release authority for B30 accepts the open gate in writing, or holds. VeldBuild computes the verdict; it does not release the work.

**What it costs:** A crew either mobilizes against buildable work or loses a shift to a blocked gate, mid-work stoppage, or avoidable rework.

A work package can look scheduled and still be unbuildable: the governing revision is not released, two of nine kit items are held at receipt, a predecessor is not accepted, or a hold point is open. Each fact lives in a different system, so a crew discovers the block on the deck plate instead of before mobilizing.

## How VeldBuild answers it

**Question:** Can WP-019 begin now? If not, which gate is open?

- **Scope:** One work package, its governing revision, declared predecessors, material kit, access state, quality gates, and assigned resources at a stated time.
- **What it reads:** Work package scope and effective revision; Material kit and receipt acceptance state; Predecessor completion and acceptance; Area / zone release; Quality hold points and open nonconformances; Assigned trade and crew. Evidence it needs: Configuration release record; Material acceptance record; Predecessor acceptance record; Inspection plan and nonconformance state.
- **What it computes:** Check each of the six readiness gates against its record; Never average an unknown into a yes; Name the reason and the owner of the gate that holds. Output: Ready, not ready or cannot establish; the gates that hold it, their evidence, and who must clear each.
- **Left unknown:** Missing, stale, or conflicting evidence; Unestablished applicability or effectivity; A gate with no attributable source or owner
- **Decided by:** VeldBuild computes the verdict from evidence; it does not waive a gate by assertion; A named production authority releases the physical work (Engineering configuration release; Material-control acceptance; Production-control release; Quality acceptance)
- **Status:** Synthetic. Demonstrated deterministically on VS-001 in the VeldBuild readiness proof. Live shipyard connectors are planned.
- **What would prove it on real records:** Connect a bounded live work-package slice, compare verdicts with authorized human releases, and review false-ready, false-blocked, and cannot-establish cases.

**Next:** [See the six gates computed](https://www.veldarium.com/veldbuild). This is the scenario VeldBuild answers in full. The same work package, the same six gates, a verdict of READY, NOT READY or CANNOT ESTABLISH, and the evidence behind each one.
